How to: Send a key-encrypted fax.
Solution:
In Microsoft Exchange, select the 'Tools' menu, select 'Microsoft Fax Tools', and select 'Advanced Security...'. Create the public key and exchange the public key with the desired persons. Send the fax using the 'Compose New Fax' Wizard and encrypt the fax message.
NOTE: Microsoft Fax only applies security to faxes that have been sent as editable files. Rendered faxes cannot be secured.
1) Double-click the 'Inbox' icon on the Windows 95 desktop to start Microsoft Exchange. (The 'Inbox - Microsoft Exchange' window appears.)

NOTE: If the 'Inbox' icon is not visible, Microsoft Exchange may not be installed. Install Microsoft Exchange.
2) Establish security:
a) In Microsoft Exchange, select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Microsoft Fax Tools'. (A submenu appears.)
b) Select 'Advanced Security...' from the submenu. (The 'Advanced Fax Security' dialog box appears.)
c) Click 'New Key Set...'. (The 'New Key Set' dialog box appears.)
d) Type the new password in the 'Password' box and retype the same password in the 'Confirm Password' box.
e) Click 'OK'.
f) Click 'Close'.
3) Exchange public keys with another user:
a) In Microsoft Exchange, select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Microsoft Fax Tools'. (A submenu appears.)
b) Select 'Advanced Security...' from the submenu. (The 'Advanced Fax Security' dialog box appears.)
c) Click 'Public Keys...'. (The 'Fax Security - Key Set Password' dialog box appears.)

d) Type the password used for the key security in the 'Password' box and click 'OK'. (The 'Fax Security - Managing Public Keys' dialog box appears.)
e) Click 'Save...'. (The 'Fax Security - Save Public Keys' dialog box appears.)

f) Select the name(s) to which to send the public key and click 'To'. (The name appears in the right list box.)
g) Click 'OK'. (The second 'Fax Security - Save Public Keys' dialog box appears.)
h) In the 'Save in' drop-down list, select the drive to which to store the public key.
i) Select the folder to store the public key file and click 'Open'.
j) Type a name for the public key file in the 'File name' box.
k) Click 'Save'. (The 'Fax Security - Managing Public Keys' dialog box reappears.)
l) Click 'Close' twice to return to the 'Inbox - Microsoft Exchange' window.
m) Send this key file to another user either through network communications or on a diskette.
NOTE: The recipient must import the public key into Microsoft Fax.
4) Send a secured fax:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Programs' and select 'Accessories'.
c) Select 'Fax'.
NOTE: If Microsoft Fax is not present on the submenu, use the 'Add/Remove Programs' in Control Panel to add this program from the original Windows 95 installation diskettes or CD-ROM.
d) Select 'Compose New Fax' from the 'Fax' submenu. (The 'Compose New Fax' dialog box appears.)
e) (Optional) Specify the dialing location and properties:
1] Click 'Dialing Properties...'. (The 'Dialing Properties' dialog box appears.)
2] Select the dialing location from the 'I am dialing from' drop-down list box.
NOTE: If you need to define a new location, click 'New...', type the name of the new location in the 'Create New Location' dialog box, and click 'OK'.
3] Type the area code in the 'The area code is' box.
4] Select the country from the 'I am in' drop-down list box.
5] If you need to dial a number (or numbers) to access an outside line, type the number(s) in the 'To access an outside line, first dial' box.
NOTE: There are two boxes: one for local calls and one for long distance calls. You can fill in one or both of them, if applicable.
6] If the location has call waiting:
a] Select the 'This location has call waiting' check box.
b] (Optional) To disable call waiting, select or type the appropriate number in the 'To disable it, dial' drop-down list box.
7] Click 'OK'. (The 'Compose New Fax' dialog box reappears.)
f) Click 'Next'.
g) Type the fax number manually:
1] Type the recipient's name in the 'To' box.
2] Type the recipient's fax number in the 'Fax #' box.
3] Select the 'Dial area code' check box if you need to dial the area code.
NOTE: If sending to multiple recipients, click 'Add to List' and repeat step 4)g) for each recipient.

h) Click 'Next'.
i) Specify whether or not a cover page is to be included:

1] Select the 'No' radio button to send the fax without a cover page.
2] Select the 'Yes. Send this one' radio button and select the cover page to include from the list box.
j) Customize sending options and set the encryption key:
1] Click 'Options...'. (The 'Send Options for this Message' dialog box appears.)

2] Select the desired time to send the fax under the 'Time to send' group.
3] Select the 'Editable only' radio button under the 'Message Format' group.
4] Click 'Security...'. (The 'Message Security Options' dialog box appears.)
5] Select the 'Key-encrypted' radio button and click 'OK'. (The 'Fax Security - Key Set Password' dialog box reappears.)
6] Type the password and click 'OK'. (The 'Send Options for this Message' dialog box reappears.)
7] Click 'OK' to close the 'Send Options for this Message' dialog box. (The 'Compose New Fax' dialog box reappears.)
k) Click 'Next'.
l) (Optional) Type a subject and notes for the fax.
m) (Optional) Select the 'Start note on cover page' check box to start the notes on the cover page.
n) Click 'Next'.
o) Attach the file to be faxed:
NOTE: The file attached to the fax message is the document which will be received and printed by the fax machine.
1] Click 'Add File...'. (The 'Open a File to Attach' dialog box appears.)
2] In the 'Look in' drop-down list, select the drive where the document is stored.
3] Select the folder in which the file is saved and click 'Open'.
4] Select the file to be attached.
NOTE: An attached file will print out as additional pages on the recipient's fax machine.
5] Click 'Open'.
p) Click 'Next'.
q) Click 'Finish'.
